Imperial decree. They fire estimated at between 60,000 and 200,000. It is believed that a large number of Slavs were incarcerated without a trial, and imprisoned in prisons where they auSered from lack of food ami other terrible privations. Thousands emerged mere skeletons, and many were carried from prison to hospital. One had to have both legs amputated, owing to his feet having been neglected by the prison doctor.
