ACCUSED COMMITTED FOE . SENTENCE. A young man dressed In lading breeches named Michael Joseph McCann, appeared before, Mr JL. G-. Eeid. S.M., in the Magistrate’s ‘Court on Saturday to answer several charges of theft vvitn which he stood accused. The charges against the defendant -were ir-fl)--Theft of a portmanteau-.vnlued.nt.i;6,Jfls..6d, the property of Alfred Benjamin .Lucas, on June 22nd; (2) theft of a gentleman’s overcoat, vaiued.-at t£3, the property of some person or,, r.ecsons— unknown;, (3) theft of a quantity of clothing valued at X'l 18s, the property of Mahum Opit, and the theft of an. overcoat, brush.and comb, and £i ill, money (total 'value £t 10s) the property of " "Denham Kassell. frdim the -dwelling'of "Louis Percival O'Brien-on. Jnne-20fch; -{4)-theft of on overcoat and other clothing valued at J3lO. the property of James O’Shea, from the dwelling of. .F. McFarland. Accused had been before tbe court previously when part of against him waS’neilre!,* 'and on Saturday James O’Shea gave evidence as to his property being stolen, from the Tramway Hotel. Morris Brickman, secondhand dealer, Taranaki .street, and Constables Hollis and 'Black l 'also' testified to what they knew' respecting McCann, who purlolftoil 1 Some of the articles stolon from the Masonic Hotel.
