MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SATURDAY'S CRIMINAL CASES. A short bitting of the Magistrate's Court \ya s presided over on Saturday by Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M. Ida Ellen Hobson. who was convicted of stealing the sum of Ail 13s -3d, was sentenced 'to three months’ imprisonment. Accused, who is only 17 years of age. entered a private boardinghouse and stole a purse containing the money. William Babago. who pleaded guilty to failing to ‘ enrol in the First Division. was fined 20s. with costs 7s. Inspector Marsack said the defendant was a steward on a vessel .and'. when asked to produce his enrolment card was unable to do so. Babago said he had been emu)eyed on troopships as a fireman since the commencement of the. war and was under the impression he was not required to enrol. The magistrate there were extenuating circumstances and would fine him accordingly. Lomond Kennedy, whose case was an aggravated one, was fined £5, costs 7s, and in default, is to go to gaol for on month for failing to enrol in the First Division. ■ '
