YESTERDAY’S CONFERENCE
FURTHER RESOLUTIONS. The conference resumed its deliberations yesterday afternoon. It was resolved: "That this conference of delegates from the Second Division. League established throughout the Dominion affirms the principle of carrying on New Zealand's part in the war to tho end provided the principle of equality of sacrifice be applied by legislation to the ' whole community.' It was decided that a committee of five should be eot up for the purpose. °f arranging the best means of organising the league. A committee brought forward a report on th© basic principles of pension scheme. On its recommendation alterations were made as follows:—The children's rats was increased from 7s 6d to 10s 6d. In the case of death pensions a reduction was made in the case of a widow without children from £2 12s 6d to .£2 5s 6d. In th© cas© of a widow with children a reduction was agreed to from £3 3s to =£2 16s. The proposals were on the lines of the Britisn scheme with a 50 per cent, increase. A resolution was passed in favour of soldiers getting a complete equipment on leaving camp. A resolution was also canned in favour of married soldiers getting preference in ballots for land. It was resolved: "That a committco.be set up to draft a rational constitution to bo submitted to all leagues and that meanwhile our political business bo in the hands of a consultative committee of provincial representatives in conjunction with tho Wellington executive and that in matters of urgency arising out of things within the administration of this conference tho Wellington Executive have power to act." A remit from Auckland accepted was: "That this conference affirms that in no circumstances should reservists be graded by private or semi-official persons. but all ballots should be taken under the present system, and all exemptions 'except on th© ground of physical unfitpess should be granted only by a Military Service Board." A motion for the establishment’ of local camps for men of the Second Division was lost. It was resolved; "That the Government bo urged to devise means consistent with the rights of the mortgagee whereby tho widow of a deceased soldier being the owner of a mortgaged homo shall not bo compelled to sell tho home." It was further resolved: "That the whole question of aliens In New Zealand bo referred to the executive with a recommendation from the conference that action be taken.”
