CHRISTCHURCH HOTEL SENSA TTON. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 20. The case of alleged chloroforming in the Clarendon Hotel in the .small hours of the morning of July sth was heard in the Magisivate’sCqurc to-day, when William Kinnaird, aged 50, and Robert Irwin Mcachlem, aged 24. wore charged that with intent to facilitate the commission of a crime, they attempted to cause Andrew Rollo Guild and Laid Guild to be affected by chloroform. Mr Guild, who is a farmer at To muka, said his wife awakened him at 5.25 a.rn. Ho noticed a very strong smell, which he put down to chloroform. His wife was very much excited and alarmed, and partly dazed. Ho felt affected in the lungs. He found a largo handkerchief soaked with a solution lying between the pillows. Evidence was given by Mrs Guild and others. John Oakley, warehouse assistant, stated that on July 2nd he sold accused Kinnaird some chloroform. Accused said he was a student. Both accused wore committed for trial. Bail was refused.
