ITS RELATION TO INDUSTRY
COUNCIL OF EDUCATION MAKES RECOMMENDATION b.
The Council of Education had under consideration yesterday a report from a committee set up to consider the subject of industrial research and industry To committee recommended: —T. nut there should be a National Advisory Council on Research, consisting of lour scientific men, one of whom he a scientific expert attached to a Government Department; three members connected with leading industries of the Dominion, one of whom should repre. sent agriculture. . , The council should consider and allot to the proper persons for investigation all proposals for scientific researches, and also consider tho problems affecting particular industries to determine along what lines research might be instituted. Amongst otheer recommendations arc research scholarships and a research committee, consisting of three Ministers of the Crown, to consider nil the proposals of the Advisory Council involving additional expenditure on questions of policy. It was also recommended that tho Council of Education communicate with the Chambers of Commerce, the annual conferences of the A. and P. Associations, the New Zealand National Dairy Association, and the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, intimating that the council would welcome any suggestions from these bodies as to how the educational agencies of tho Dominion might assist iu achieving the purpose of bringing the x>roduce of New Zealand industries into the most profitable relationship with the markets ,of the world. The report was adopted.
