A LIFT ACCIDENT
£2200. DAMAGES CLAIMED. CHRISTCHURCH HOTELKEEPER SUED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 22. The Supreme Court was occupied to-day hearing a claim for damages, before Mr Justice Denniston and a special jury of twelve. Alexander Robert Wallis. timber merchant, Dunedin, claimed from Joseph Alandel, proprietor of the United Service Hotel Christchurch, £2200 as damages for a lift accident, which occurred at the hotel on January 7th. The statement of claim set out that plaintiff was a boarder at the hotel, and requested the man in charge of the lift to convey him to his room on tlio third floor. The man opened the lift gate, plainuiff stepping in, but the lift was not there* and ho sustained severe injuries. . For the defence, Air Raymond said ho intends to call medical evidence to show there was no reason to suppose that plaintiff would sutler anv permanent injury. , Hr Stanston, who had * thorough examination of plaintiff, said that ho had made marked progress since the time ho first saw him. Ho did not consider the nerve centre was injured, nor did he consider plaintiff’s longevity had boon matexially adjourned till next day. ___ _____
