“PROUD OF THEIR SUCCESS” DEFENCE MINISTER CABLES CONOR AT ULA HONS. The following cablegram has been sent by the Hon. Sir James Allen (Acting-Premier and Minister for Defence) to Lieutenant-General Sir A. J. Godley (General Officer Commanding the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces): — “I have read with pride of the taking ol Messines by Now Zealanders. We never , doubted they would win through with honour, however difficult the task allotted to them. We deeply regret the lost, and send our sympathy to sick and wounded, and earnestly hope the casualties are not heavy. Let General Russell and all his command know New Zealand is gratified at the opportunity given to her sons and proud of their success, and ask him to tell the Tunnollcrs I realise how their work has materially assisted in bringing about a splendid success.”
