THE GOAL STRIKE

NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS ioonsctuption declared the ONLY ISSUE. Press Association. WESTPORT, April 9. Tliore arc no now developments concerning the strike at the mines. The Raster holidays are usually taken on Monday and Tuesday, so that it may not bo known until Wednesday-whether tho minors, or a section of them, intend to resume work. It is understood that a mooting will 'bo held at Donniston to-morrow morning, but its purpose has not been disclosed. It is suggested that it may bo to review tho decision previously arrived at to ceaso work. Tho miners wish it to bo understood •that their doeision is purely anti-con-scription, tho resolution being as follows ; Wo, the members of tho Denniston, .Millerton, and Stockton collieries and Industrial Union of Workers, enter our protest against conscription, in part by cessation of . work and demand the immediate repeal of tho Act. Wo wish to state that wo have no quarrel with tho companies whatever. In tho present instance tho issue is conscription alono, and nothing olsc. But the conscription strike has nothing to do with tho recent arrests, nor the the adverse decision of the appeal cases; nor is it tho result of failure of recent negotiations with tho mineowners. _ Tho voting was—Denniston; For, 908; against, 20. Stockton was unanimous. Millerton; For, 204; against, SO. Tho watersiders at Westport hold a mooting this morning, but have not made their decision public. It is understood, however, that they have decided to continue working pending tho decision of tho Federation of Labour.
