INCREASE TO BE -MADE. Householders will hardly welcome the. news that the Wellington Gas Company has decided to increase tho price of gas—nn announcement which was made yesterday. The increase, however, is not a heavy one, being an addition to the present cost per iOOU feet of ad, so that where, in the past, gas lias been paid for at the rate of 5s per 1000 foot (if paid before what is generally known as “the last discount day”) it will, as from tho middle/ of next month, be os od per 1000 feet./ It paid after the prescribed date, at will bo 7s lid, instead of 7s fid. The increase will also apply to people using gas other than the ordinary lighting user. Tho increase is stated to he duo to the increased cost of labour and raw material. As explained to a “Times” reporter yesterday by Mr J. H. frelliwcll (secretary' of the Oas Company), the increase in tho cost of material has been considerable, and is still going ,oU. Tho present price of 3s per 10D0 feet has been ruling for the last four years. To tho average householder the increase will mean only an addition ot from Is to 2s in the monthly bill.
