REVISION OF THE SYLLABUS. Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 29. Tho Minister for 33duoation stated to-day that a complete remodelling of the syllabus of the system of inspecting schools is well in hand, and will be ready for publication probably in October. In tho meantime, a number of amendments to the present regulations will be gazetted this week, not affecting tho work for this year. The chief alterations provide for greater emphasis on such esaentiai matters as accuracy 'of speech, intelligent reading, accuracy in arithmetic, and a sound knowledge of history, nature study, and geography. Provision is also being made for necessary concessions to girls -to enable them to devote more attention to needlework and do. mestic science. Teachers who desired to be regarded a s efficient are being enjoined to pay special attention to the physical well-being of children and to take an active part in their physical training in co-operation with th« medical inspectors, school nurses, and " the physical instructors. In regard to the inspection of schools, it is provided that more time be devoted to the smaller schools and to the less experienced teachers. Ig cases of pupil teachers and probation* ers not snowing a satisfactory, advance in their examinations during training an explanation of such failure will b<r required of the head teacher.
