RUGBY FOOTBALL

ORIENTAL CLUB. The onnual meeting of the Oriental Football Club was held in Godber’s rooms, Cuba street, last night. Mr E. U yiio presided over a satisfactory attendance. The annual report stated that at the beginning of the season the club was able to place lour teams in the field, but later it was found necessary to withdraw tho sixth-class loam on account of an HisuUicient number of players. Tho first team met with a fan measure of success, being placed third iu the competition. Out of thirteen games played they won niue and lost lour. The fifth-class team were successful in winning tho seven-a-side tournament hold at the beginning of ths season. The club’s thanks were duo to Messrs Kinvig, Wylie, Perry, Jordan, and Hornig for donations to the funds, and also to Mr Hornig for donating a set of Jerseys for the sixth-class. Tbs financial position of tho club under tbs existing circumstances must be considered satisfactory. Members were requested to make every effort to obtain honorary members'for the club, as the drain on the funds is fairly heavy owing to the shortage of paying members' subscriptions. Xu conclusion the report urged mem. bers ’to obtain as many young players as possible to fill the vacancies left by those members who had gone to the. front, and also ask the old members to roll up to the gymnasium and give tho young members the benefit of their e.xpe-riencb arm help the club to main, tain the high position it. had- held in previous years. The report and .balance-sheet were adopted. . • . Twenty new members were elected. The following resolution was carried: “That the trustees be, and they are hereby authorised and - requested ■to affix the seal of the club to a memorandum of extension of the club’s mortgage to the New Zealand Investment, Mortgage, and Deposit Co., providing for the payment of £SO by 36 monthly, instalments of dll 14s 3d, reducible' to dll 11s 3d upon punctual payment within fourteen days as -from March 1916, and the balance .£l5O on flat mortgage, and any action by the trustees in so doing is hereby ratified and confirmed."

Officers were elected as follows for the ensuing season:—President, Mr E. vVyiie; vice-presidents, Messrs T. Bush, J. B. Jordan, J. Brown, it. C. Kinvig, E. Penny, W. F. Hornig, and F. Roberts; club captain, Mr E. Mollraith; secretary', Mr VV. Gowdy; treasurer, Mr Hornig; management committee, Messrs F. Buuckonberg, Pouiter, E. Vivian, T. vV. Pearce, G. Hathaway; hon. auditors. Messrs G. King, G. Wilkes; match committee, Messrs R. Mollraithj G. Hathaway, and F. Bunckenberg; delegates to Wellington Rugby Union. Messrs Hornig, Mciiraith, and Little.

ST. JAMES’ CLUB. The annual meeting of the St. James’ Football Club was hold in St. James Hall, Newtown, last night. Mr A. C. ivitt.o presided over a largo attendance. The annual report staled that the club commenced the season with a large membership, and continued with full teams right through Hie season. While the club did not win a championship it put up 1 good performances in the throe grades (fourth, fifth, and sixth) entered into. The fourth and sixth-class teams did exceptionally well, and were well up in the championship. The club congratulated B. Charles, E. Scott, R. Cochrane, Reeves, and Lindsay on obtaining places in : the sixth-class representatives. The club had lost some of its most enthusiastic members, ■ notably Daniells, J, (veils, and W. Brown. The committee regretted the loss to the olub of one of its founders. ' - Tho report along with the balancesheet (the latter disclosing a satisfactory condition of affairs) were adopted. The ' thirty-fourth annual meeting of the Poneke Football Club was held last evening at Scott’s rooms, Manners street. Dr A K. Newman, president, occupied the chair, and there were about 20 members present , , .. . Gage one. of the club's most famous members, who bad died during the past year, also to the late Air Henry Mclntyre who had succumbed after a protracted illness.
