MAGISTRATE’S COURT

POLICE AND CIVIL CASES. Mr W. G. Riddell. S.M., presided at the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in the city yesterday. William .James McCullough, a young man who had b'.'en employed as a postal ofiiier, was charged wita stealing a postal packet containing valuable securities in the sha’>e ot tobacco tickets. He was remanded till February 2nd, bail being allowed himself in <425 and a suiety ivr a like amount. Donald Cnarles Livingstone, a youth of 19. was remanded to Christchurch on a charge of failing to account for ill 15s Ski belonging to Kempthorac, Prosser tend Co.

William Wilson, “found drunk," vas ordered to pay 20s or go to prison for three days. Arthur Lynch, for a like olienee was fined ss. On judgment summonses James Jamieson Scott was ordered to pay E. J. Proud £2 17s 6d by February Bth, or throe days’ imprisonment; J. McLeod to pay Arthur Bolton XI 15s Gd by monthly instalments of 4s; F. Q. Millman to pay G. H. Lyster and Co. £22 8s 9d by monthly instalments of XI; Arthur Noble to pay John Edward Butler, Ltd., £l2 11s 2d by February Bth, or twelve days’ imprisonment;, A. W. Scoullar to pay George Puddle -213 9s by February Bth, or twelve days. PETONE COURT.

The monthly sitting of the Petone Court yesterday was presided over by Mr L. G. Reid. S.M. , . , Edward Edlin, for riding a bicycle after sunset without a light, was fined ss, with costs 7s; Henry Hurrell, for a similar offence, was ordered to pay 7s costs. Alfred Glading was fined 10s. costs 7s, for riding a motor cycle through the main street of ltho‘ borough-at night without a headlight. Vera Bennett, for riding a bicycle on a footpath, was ordered to pay -7s costs, while on a fartber charge she was convicted and discharged, , , For allowing a horse to wander, Ernest Alfred King was convicted and discharged, it being explained that the animal walked out of a yard on to the street.

James McGrath and Helen Dalton, for breaches of their prohibition order, were each convicted and fined 10s, costs 7x. i, ■ In a judgment summons “case 1 Alfred Lacey was ordered to be imprisoned for three days if he fails, to pay Mary Rule -Cl 13s. duo for board and lodging, within one month.
