GREETINGS TO OUR ALLIES RESPONSES RECEIVED BY THE GOVERNOR. At tho Now Year His Excellency the Governor sent greetings to our Allies, and ho has received the following messages in response: From tho President of the Council of the French Republic.—‘‘l am ■very sensible to the message which Your Excellency has been kind enough to address to the people, army, and navy of Franco, and 1 desire to express my sincerest thanks for the sentiments conveyed in your telegram at the beginning of Hie Now Year. Tho important pait which New Zealand has taken, and is taking, alongside tho French armies in the common struggle m which tho Allies are engaged for the triumph of right and liberty is deeply appreciated by the whole French nation. They are proud to bo associated with the groat Dominion in the same steadfast dotejmination to continue the struggle until a victorious peace has been won.” (Signed) Briand. From tho Government of Russia - “The Emperor has commanded that an expression of his most sincere thanks and of his best wishes for the prosperity of the Dominion should be conveyed to the Governor, as well as to the Government and peop.e ot Now Zealand. His Majesty joins m Loping for a speedy realisation ot the aspirations for which the Allies arc fighting with so much heroism. From the King of the Belgians:— “The King is deeply touched by the sentiments conveyed by you behalf of the Dominion of New Zealand- His Majesty, while thanking you sincerely, begs that Your Excellency will convey to the Government and people of Now* Zealand an expression of his appreciation of the sympathy extended by them to the Belgian nation.” From His Majesty King Peter of Serbia : —“I am very sensible ot your kind wishes, and thank you sincerely. I am certain that the knowledge that we are fighting m the cause of justice and humanity will aid the Allies in bringing about in the Now Year a decisive victory which will assure to tho world all the benefits of peace.
