I At the Solway Show tfn February 15th and 16th there will be plenty of trophies to compete for. Very few agricultural exhibitions in New. Zealand are so well endowed with trophies as the Masterton show- In the Romney Marsh section, for instance, there is the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheepbreeders’ Association’s silver shields for the champion ewe and champion ram, the Allen Cnp, and also McDougall Bros-’ trophy, for the most points in the Romney classes; the Brancepeth Cup for the best pen of four rams under 21 months; the Perry Salver for the best ram under 21 mouths: the Johnston Bose Bowl for the best ram lamb: and. the Mauriceville Co.’s truck of lime for champion ewe, and gold medals for the champion ewe and ram. In Sonthdowns there is the Gienside Cup for the champion ram, and the Stuctev prise for the best ram under 21 months, as well as the usual gold medals for, champion ewe and ram. The other stud sections are well catered for. In the freezing classes there is the cup presented by Messrs Sims, Cooper and Co., of Christchurch, the Walker and Hall Cup, the McLaren Cup, the New Zealand Shipping Co.'s Challenge Cup, and Mr J. Strang’s special prize of -610. In fat sheep there is the Henderson Cup to compete for., The cattle classes are well endowed with prizemoney, while the N.Z. Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association has donated gold medals for the champion bull and cow. Substantial cash prizes and handsome trophies are given in the horse sections. The competitions are of a particularly attractive character, and the jumping events have been handsomely provided for in the way of prize-money. Entries close with the secretary (Mr J. B. Emmett) next Saturday at 9 p.m. Late entries will he received up till Saturday, February sth, on nayment of late entry fee- Entries for the Ram Fair on February 17th and 18th will close with the auctioneers on Monday. January 31st.
