THE MAHENO
fItOSIPITAL SHIP READY TO DEPART.
The hospital ship Maheno, -which returned to New Zealand some weeks ago with invalided' Now Zealand troops, will probably leave Wellington for the Mediterranean again to-day. The vessel has been reconditioned as well as recommissioned during her stay in Dominion waters, and she presented a spick and span appearance as she moved away from the wharf a few minutes after 6 last evening. A considerable crowd had gathered to witness the departure, and cheers were given as the vessel moved out.
Yesterday morning the Maheno was inspected by the Minister for Defence (Hon. J. Allen) and the Officer Commanding the Forces (Brigadier-General Robin). During the afternoon His Excellency the Governor paid a visit to the ship. In addition to the ordinary staff, the Maheno has taken 52 nurses, who are to serve in the hospitals in Egypt dr elsewhere. These nurses, with the 48 taken by the Marama, complete the special group of 100 New Zealand nurses asked for by the Imperial authorities some months ago.
