WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL. WELLINGTON CITY EMPOWERING ACT. 1908, AMENDMENT BILL. DRAINAGE OF MELROSE, NORTHLAND AND WADESTOWN. NOTICE is hereby given that it is the intention of tho Wellington City Council to introduce in the ensuing session of Parliament tho Wellington City Empowering Act, 1908, Amendment Bill. Tho objects which the said Bill is intended to effect are: — 1. To amend “The Wellington City Empowering Act, 1908,” hereinafter referred to as “the principal Act.” 2. In respect of the drainage of the outlying districts of the City, namely, those portions of the late Borough of Melrose and tho portions of Northland and Wadostown that were not drained under tho original ’ drainage scheme of the City, to make tho following provisions (1) To authorise the Council to borrow by way of special loan by special order and w'ithout taking a poll of the ratepayers a sum of not more than £30,000 in addition to the existing loan of £IOO,OOO. (2) To provide that such special loan shall be secured on a special rate on. the whole of the district affected by the principal Act. (3) To provide that the interest, sinking fund and other charges on the loan of .£30,000 shall, as far as possible, be paid out of the existing rate made to secure the existing loan of £IOO,000, being a rate of Id in the £ on all rateable property in the district affected before the special rate on which the loan of £30,000 is secured is collected.-(-1) To provide that all moneys produced by a loan raised under the provisions of the proposed Act shall be expended as follows: — (a) In repaying amounts expended by the Council out of its General Fund for drainage works in the district affected, the sum of £17,000 having been already so expended. (b) In further carrying on tho construction of tho drainage system in the district affected apart from the construction of private drains and house connections. Copies of this Bill have been deposited in the Magistrate’s Court Office, Lamhton quay, Wellington, and the Town Clerk’s Office, To ra Hall, Ouba street, and are there open tor inspection for a period three full weeks from the first publication hereof.
