CONFERENCE CONTINUED.

The general meeting, of the Society of Friends for New Zealand was continued yesterday. In the morning, at Boulcott street Hall, the session was devoted to the consideration of the state of the society. An encouraging discussion on the reports of the monthly meetings was followed by references to the possibilities for work in .the future. ... In the afternoon a visit of inspection to the new Hostel took place. This has been built on a site at Kelbnrn, quite close to the new Training College and within easy distance of Victoria College From the' front a good outlook is obtained over the Botanical Gardens mm of the wireless station. It is specially designed for the accommodation of about thirty-four women students, and will also serve as a centre ‘ for the society m New Zealand. The building, a substantial one, is of red brick with concrete facings and tiled roof, and will be lighted throughout by electricity- At the side is sufficient space for a garden and tenuis court. The entrance hall leads into a large well-lighted _ common room, raid the diningroom adjoins. These two rooms, which are panelled in weil-grain-ed rimu, may be thrown into one bymeans of sliding doors- • Every needed convenience has been fitted in the kitchen and scullery. An up-to-date laundry and drying room ate provided. The bathroom and lavatory accommodation is on a liberal scale, and a special furnace has been installed for heating, drying andbathroom requirements. The bedroom studies for the students are 'Vu wa ul robes dud bookshelves, whilst Hie chests of drawers, dressing tables and minors arc built in. All the bedrooms ax© panuelied in. sternite and rimu and the 'fittings are of antique popper. Ihe expenditure on site, building and furnishing will be not less than £7OOO. Mrs A. K. Bell, who for the past three years ha© ablv discharged the duties of principal, will have the superintendence of the new hostel. The building is .not fully completed, hut owing to tho expiration of the lease of 2-13. The Terrace, the move into the new building will take place this week. All the bedrooms needed for immediate occupation are ready, and the downstair living rooms, together with the kitchen, are completed. The remainder of the building will be out of the hands of the contractor, Mr \\. H Bennett, in a short time. Admiration of the thoughtfulness of the porvision of necessary detail for the special reqtiiremente was freely expressed by those who had the privilege of looking over the building.
