WAR INVENTIONS

IN WHICH GERMANY PLACES GREAT HOPES. , ''Times" and Sydney "Sun" Services. LONDON, July 12. It is believed that Germany places great hopes on two war inventions—an nir torpedo and an automatic gun. The former is fitted with propellers and driven by electricity controlled from a Zeppelin by wireless at a distance of two miles. It is _ able to hover, assume a vertical position, and dive to the ground, exploding a quantity of high explosives. It is proposed to use it against the British fleet. Small, swift craft are being built to carry only aerial'torpedoes. The “Daily Mail” correspondent at Rotterdam learns that the weapon will probably be tried over London this summer. No doubt it is - the secret invention about which people have heard many whispers. The correspondent warns his readers that it is not a fantastic Jules Verne idea, but a practical weapon, invented by a competent engineer, and tested to the satisfaction of German naval and military authorities. It is hoped that the automatic gun will pour out shells as a Maxim docs bullets.
