FROM NEAR ZANZIBAR

A SAILOR’S LETTER

Bj Tclssrraph—Pre»» Association—Copyright FREMANTLE, July XI.

A sailor aboard a warship which left Fremantle months ago on an unknown mission writes from-near Zanzibar: — “We have been on blockading duty, stopping food supplies from entering for the enemy. Our seaplanes make things interesting for the Konigsberg. We are looking forward to a naval landing party. We think the Germans willput up a scrap when we start to force things. At Tanga our troops jnet with a big resistance,- and we had to abandon the attack. The Germans are well prepared. They placed beehives in the hush, with ropes attached. Out, men tripped on the ropes, upset the hives, and" got a warm time, while the Germans, cleverly Concealed, with machine guns poured a deadly fire on our men.”
