The annual report of the Registrar of Patents and Trade-Marks states that there were 1574 applications for letters patent during last year, a reduction of 201 on the number received in 1913. Thirty-two applications were from women inventors, 19 being in respect of domestic appliances and 7 for articles of dress. New Zealand residents provided 1045 out of the total number received. “As usual, the applications in respect of our industries are fairly well maintained," says the Registrar. “Under the heading ‘Dairying,’ 92 applications were received, as against 100 for 1913. Attention seems to bo given much more to the development of well-known tvpes of machines than to any marked departure from generally recognised ! ines.
