POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. •Yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate's Court was, presided over by Mr D. .G. A. Cooper, S.M. Louisa Tierney was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and . fined £2, or seven days' imprisonment, for the use of obscene language. John-Ward and Martin Grogan, who had a fight in Cuba street, were each lined £l, dr three days’ imprisonment. Angus Me in nos was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and for indecency was fined £2, or seven days’' detention. ■ .

James William Murdoch Ross, who appeared on a charge of disobeying a maintenance order, was remanded until Monday. ; Insobriety cost Alfred Charles Hale and James McGowan each 20s, or three days’ detention; James Lcckie 10s,or forty-eight hours. Marion Coombor was ordered to come up'for sentence when called upon on a charge of using obsceno ■ language. A prohibition order was also issued against her. James Flock ton, for suspending a bath .tub so as to encroach on the footway in Manners street, was fined Os, and costs ,7s.
