TROUBLE OYER DISMISSAL OP A. • WORKMAN. Frees Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. A proposal to go on strike was cussod by tho General Labourers Union last evening when it became known .that one member, 1. Lurch, had been dismissed from work at the City Council’s electrical plant because be was born in Germany. Lurch has been a resident and a naturalised British subject for many years. . The matter was brought before tho Mayor, who said that in conversation with the electrical engineer, ho had reported to the latter that Lurch should bo put off and a British-born worker, whose case was urgent, taken an. The engineer subsequently dismissed Lurch. To avoid industrial trouble, the Mayor has now issued definite instructions that Lurch ho taken on again until opportunity is afforded to ,inquire into the position.
