THE FINAL RESULTS

LITTLE CHANGE IN THE CITY COUNCILSATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY CARRIED. • The final results of the biennial civic elections were compiled yesterday, and 1 a commencement was made with the official recounts, which are not likely to alter tho positions of the elected candidates. The figures for the Mayoralty, as announced in yesterday’s ‘‘Times/’ remain unaltered, as follow; — Luke, J. P 9896 Fletcher, R 7483 Chapman, C. H 1132 Majority for Luke 2413

What must have been a source of gratification to old members of the City Council was the fact that all their number who stood for re-election were successful. The new council consists of the following:— Messrs J. Fuller, G. Frost, W. H. P. Barber, L. McKenzie, A* R* Atkinson, R. A. Wright, J. Hutcheson, J. Godber, J. E. Fitzgerald, M. F. Luckio, W. H. Bennett, W. J. Thompson, A. Vcitch, W. T. Hildreth, and T- Bush.

On the Harbour Board there will be only two new members. Messrs R. E. Sinclair and W. Cable, the board now consisting of:— ■_ T , Messrs J. W. McEwan, D. J. Watson, C. E- Daniell, A. MoFarlane, B. E. Sinclair; C- W. Jones, H- L. Nathan, J. Q. Cobbe. M. Cohen, B. Fletcher, A. H. Hindmarsh. W. Cable, R. A. Wright, and J G. Harkness.

Dr Platts-Mills, who topped the poll for the Hospital Board two years ago, was again returned at the head of the list. There are four new city members on the board—Mrs Wilford, Mrs McVicar. Mr C- M. Luke, and Mr W- J. Thompson. The successful candidates were:—

The, four chief cities will now have the weekend closing system. Karori, Petone. Lower Hntt, Eastbourne and the town districts of Johnsonvill© and Upper Hutt there were four candidates. One or two small returns had ©till to come in from Hutt County yesterday, but the return of Mr J. W. McEwan and Captain D. J. Watson, sitting members, is assured.
