AVELLIK GTON AND ATHLETIC BRACKETED CHAMPIONS. The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last evening, Mr E. O. Hales being in the chair. There were also present Messrs D. Weir, A. E. Dawson, A. G. Howe, A. O. Kitto, H. Buck, E. A. Little, and A. E; Wilson. A query by the Southland Union as to whether the military operations would interfere with the SouthlandWellington representative match was answered in the negative It was resolved to offer Manawatua a match at AA’ellingtou on September 12th. A letter was received from the Marlborough Union asking for a match on the 29th inst.—The date was agreed to provisionally. j The war has entailed a heavy loss in the Rugby ranks, it being stated that the Wellington Club in its senior fifteen alone has sent fourteen to the front. Other clubs have also diminished strength through members obeying the call to arms.—ln view of these exceptional circumstances it was decided to bracket AVellington and Athletic for the 1914 senior championship.
