MAGISTRATE’S COURT

SOME MAINTENANCE CASES. Yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Air D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Thomas Donnelly, charged with helpless drunkenness in Lambton quay, was further remanded until to-day. Alfred J. Cbote, for disobeying a maintenance order, the arrears totalling £7, was ordered- to be sent to gaol for fourteen days, the warrant to be suspended on payment of 5s a week off the arrears. W. Wood wps adjudged father of an illegitimate child, and was ordered to pay maintenance at tho rate of 7s 6d a week.

Edith S. Elliott was granted a separation and guardianship order from Leonard William Elliott on - the grounds of persistent cruelty and habitual drunkenness. Defendant was ordered to pay maintenance at the rate of 25s a week, with costs £1 6s. His Worship remarked that the allegation of drunkenness had not been proved. William Colson, for breaking tho terms of his prohibition order by entering licensed premises, was convicted and fined £l, with court costs 7s, in default fourteen days’ detention. William Edward Hughes, charged with drunkenness and also with indecency, was convicted and discharged for the first offence, and for the second was fined £2, or one month’s imprisonment. Similarly charged, Janies Nufent was convicted and discharged for runkenness on condition that ho pays medical expenses amounting to £2.5s 6d; on the charge of indecency, he was fined £2, or one month’s imprisonment.
