BUSINESS YESTERDAY. Yesterday’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was presided over by Mr D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Richard Evans, for indecency, was | fined £2, or fourteen days’ imprisonment. Thomas Keegan; charged with drunkenness and with deserting from the steamer Westmeath, was,-on the first charge, fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ detention, and on the second was fined £l, or throe days’ imprisonment. He was ordered to be placed, on board when the ship was about to sail. For insobriety, Sarah Hooper and Frank Ryder were each fined 10s, or forty-eight hours’ detention; Charles Coyle was fined 30s, or three days; Bruce McLanders 40s, or seven days; James MoKoever 20s, or three days; Frank Adair 40s, or one month; John George 10s, or forty-eight hours. “ONE BUCKET AMONG TEN PRISONERS.” John McArthur, charged with drunkenness and with resisting Constable Gunn in the execution of his duty, pleaded guilty. On a further charge of assaulting Sergeant Cassidy he pleaded not ■ guilty. It was stated by Sergeant Cassidy that the accused the previous day refused to turn out and have a wash. He was then perfectly sober. Witness caught hold of the accused by the and received a blow on the eye m return. The accused stated, that he would not wash owing to there being but one bucket of water between ten prisoners. The sergeant then struck him and shoved his head into the bucket. ASSAULT, Louis John Gray entered a plea of guilty to having assaulted Frank Flanagan. It was stated by Mr Weston, who appeared for the accused, that Gray was under the impression that the man he struck had insulted him. A fin© of £l, or three days’ imprisonment, was imposed. ALLEGED THEFT. Frederick Thomas McGregor was charged with the theft of . various .articles to the value of £2l 15s, the property of Kirkcaldio and Stains. He was, on the application of the police, remanded till Monday. Bail was allowed in the sum of £SO. In conjunction with this case, John I>wyer, George Williams, and John McDonald were each charged with having received various articles, the property of Kirkcaldio and Stains, well knowing the same to have been stolen. ■ A remand in their cases to the same date was also granted, bail being allowed in the sum of £25 each.

Joseph Flanagan, for disobedience of a maintenance order, the ' arrears totalling £4 IDs, was ordered to bo imprisoned for fourteen days, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of the amount on or before June Bth, Emily M. Brown proceeded . against John Walls Brown for a 'separation order, on the grounds of (1) persistent cruelty, (2) failure to provide maintenance, (3) being an habitual inebriate. The .order was granted, the wife to have custody of the children. Defendant was ordered to pay 10s a week towards the wife’s support, also £1 Is solicitor’s fee.
