SIR IAN HAMILTON
ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON. INSPECTION WORK STARTS TODAY. ' General Sir lan Hamilton. Inspeo-to-General of the Oversea Forces, arrived in Wellington last evening by the New Plymouth express. There was no ceremony at the railway station, and the General, with Major Ashmore, and Major-General Godley, went by motor-car to the New Zealand Commandant’s residence. Later in the evening, Sir lan attended the ceremony at the Town Hall in connection with Victoria College. Sir lan Hamilton and Major Ashmore will be the guests of MajorGeneral Godley at 18, Oriental terrace, during their stay in Wellington. Brigadier Ellison. Colonel Heard, and Second-Lieutenant Rhodes will stay at the' Wellington Club. This morning, Sir lan Hamilton and his party will commence their inspection work. At 9 a.m. they will leave by motor-car. and twill inspect the three forts, and later will watch the big-gun firing by the Garrison Artillery. This afternoon a civic reception is to be tendered the InspectorGeneral at the Town Hall. This function will commence at 4 p.m. and the citizens are invited to attend in large numbers to give the distin guished visitor a fitting welcome to the city. At the Grand Hotel tonight, the Ministers of the Crown will entertain Sir lan at dinner.
To-morrow, the General will review the Wellington senior cadets at Newtown Park. If the weather is fine, this should be a unique military display. Some 1200 cadets will take part, and the members of the combined rifle-clubs will also parade and will be inspected by the General.
