“A CANDID CRITIC”
“REFORM” SUPPORTERS AT VARIANCE. MR HERBERT AND THE MASTERTON SEAT. Special to the “ Times.” MASTERTON, May 20. Mr A. H. Herbert, who contested the Masterton .seat at the last general election, has decided to again offer himself as a “Reform 1 ' candidate. Mr Herbert stated in an interview there was a widespread feeling that, the sitting member was not doing justice to this important electorate. Mr Sykes appeared to have forgotten the fact that his district was composed almost wholly of small farmers and workers, his actions indicating that ho was at all times at the elbow of one class—the class of which Sir Walter Buchanan was at the head. In coming out as a supporter of the Government it did not mean that ho would he a blind follower; far from it. It was highly essential that a progressive electorate such as this should be represented by a man who could realise this, and not bo a blind follower of the Ministry or the assistant of influential members of the House, and, if needs be, he should become a candid critic of the Government's actions.
