SEIZURE OF OPIUM
VALUED AT OVER £SOOO. , By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyrlgln FREMANTLE, May 19. A record seizure of opium was made by the Customs officials on board the steamer Ashburton from London, via the Cape, namely, five hundred pounds in weight, valued, at over £SOOO. The opium was discovered among the coal. The captain, the officers, and the crew (a number of whom are Chinese) deny any knowledge of the drug.
