SIR IAN HAMILTON

VISIT TO WELLINGTON BIG CADET REVIEW ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. INSPECTION OF FORTS. Although Sir lan Hamilton, In-spector-General of Oversea Forces, has already been once to Wellington, his visit rvas simply a hurried rush through early one morning a fortnight ago, on his way from Nelson to Takapau. His official visit to this city will begin to-morrow evening, when he will arrive in Wellington from New Plymouth by the 7.25 p.m. express. The Inspector-General’s official party, during his visit to Wellington will consist of Brigadier-General Ellison, Alajor Ashmore, the Alinistcr for Defence (Hon. J. Allen), the Minister’s private secretary (Air F. Matthews), Major-General Godiey (Commandant of the Forces), Lieutenant Richmond, Second-Lieutenant Rhodes, Colonel Heard, six orderlies, and two clerks. Sir lan Hamilton and Major Ashmore will be the guests of Alajor-General Godiey, and Brigadier-General Ellison, Colons! Heard, and Second-Lieutenant Rhodes will stay at the Wellington Club. , INSPECTION WORK. Early on Friday morning, the In-specter-General and his party will commence their work of inspection. At 9 a.m. they will leave by motorcar and will inspect the three forts, and later in the morning will watch the big-gun firing by the Garrison Artillery. At 4 p.m. the Alayor (Mr J. P. Luke) has arranged for the distinguished visitor to be tendered a civic reception. This ceremony will be held in the Town Hall, and the citizens are invited to be present, in order that the General may ho given a fitting welcome to the city. It has been arranged that the city organist (Air Bernard Page) shall render suitable music on the city organ during the proceedings. At 8 p.m. on Friday, the Alinisters of the Crown in Wellington will entertain Sir lan Hamilton at dinner at the Grand Hotel. Alajor-General Godley will bo present at this function, which will, be a private one. . THE CADET REVIEW.

One of the most striking features of the visit of Sir lan Hamilton to Wellington will he his inspection of the senior cadets at Newtown Park. This has been fixed for Saturday afternoon at 2.30. If the weather is fine, this ceremony should he a fine military display. The whole of the Wellington city cadets, comprising 1200 youths, divided into four battalions, will take part in the review, and will go through a series of movements which should present a grand spectacle. The cadets will parade at Hoy street, Newtown at 2.15 p.m., and will be formed up later on the park in line of quarter columns for inspection by the General. After the inspection and march past, the brigade will give a massed display of physical drill, followed by an advance in review -order. Sir lan Hamilton will then present Mrs Godley’s challenge cup to the winners, and also the trophies won at the recent Citizens’ Carnival and group rifle meeting. The parade will be controlled by Captain C. G. Powles, the Brigadier, with Captain W. C. Morrison as brigade major, and Staff-Sergeani-Major Parkes as brigade sergeant-major. IN THE WAIRARAPA. The above arrangements comprise the main portion, of General Sir lan Hamilton’s work; as far as Wellington is concerned. On Suriday he will leave for Featherston by 'special train at 2 p.m. He will be accompanied by Major Ashmore, Major-General Godley, Second-Lieutenant Rhodes, and two orderlies. The party will be the guests, of Mr W. E. Bidwiil while at Featherston. On Monday they . will proceed to Masterton, where, at 2.30 p.m., Sir lan will inspect the Wairarapa cadets. The Masterton Borough Council will entertain the General at lunch at 1 p.m. At Masterton, the party will bo the guests of Mr Hugh Beetham, of “Brancepeth.” On Tuesday next, the Inspector-General' will return to Wellington by the 7.20 p.m. train, and will attend the Victoria League’s reception the same evening. At 8 a.m. on Wednesday he leaves for Pioton on H.M.S. Psyche, and will go on to Blenheim by train. An inspection of the Marlborough cadets follows the same afternoon. The party will return to Wellington late on Thursday night by the Psycho. This will conclude the official work of the Inspector-General’s tour.
