REFORM WANTED
T<* the Editor “ N.Z. Times.” Sir, —I wish to point out to your readers the inconsistent methods which aro adopted by tho Police Department in charge of which I believe is that prince of “Reformers," the Hon. A. L. Herdman. In reading tho “Times” a few days ago I read in the Supremo Court charge list tho following;—“Failing to carry out a public duty, to wit, driving an unlighted vehicle on a public highway, thereby causing "danger,” etc.; but it seemed very strange to me that whilst this charge was preferred against one individual the police are letting many similar cases go scot free. Why this inconsistency? About three weeks ago an unlighted vehicle was left in one of our public thoroughfares, constituting a danger to vehicular traffic. There was nothing to prevent anyone from colliding with it in the dark. The vehicle in question was unhorsed, and the police saw it, and know who the owner was, but so far no action has been taken against the owner for this breach of the by-law. Why this preference? Perhaps' the owner may bo a “Reform” supporter. —I am, etc., FIAT JTjSTITIA RUAT COELXJM. Wellington, May 15th.
