15,700 TON METAL RESERVOIR
BRITISH FIRM’S SUCCESSFUL TENDER. LONDON, April 2. A steel elevated reservoir construct,ed of 15,700 tons of metal has been, (Ordered from a Darlington firm by the' jcity authorities of Buenos Ayres. This reservoir has been ordered in (addition to the ono placed in hand two or throe years ago. "When the Buenos Ayres water supply scheme was originally prepared it was intended to. ■meet the ultimate demands of a popu-1 flatiou of nine millions. Orders were 1 given for the immediate construction, ''of plant capable of supplying half this! inumher, and eleven years was given: for the completion of the first half of 1 the programme. Now it has been decided to puiili ahead with , the complete scheme. The cost of the complete scheme was, (estimated at £3,600,000. It required,, (amongst other details, two enormous elevated reservoirs. The first resei--voir, now almost ready ■ for service,' ■has a capacity for 16 million gallons,' and contains 15,400 tons of cast iron pnd steel work. Together the two. (reservoirs are costing over £000,000.! It is understood that in securing the, contract for the second reservoir the successful British engineers found themselves to have, been in competi-. tion with leading American and Gci-i man firms. The award to Britain isl particularly gratifying, inasmuch as an early delivery is required. The second reservoir has to bo ready for service by March, 1910.
