CRICKET ASSOCIATION

FINANCIAL MATTERS. STATEMENT OF LIABILITIES AND ASSETS. A meeting of the committee of the Wellington Cricket Association last evening was attended by Messrs O. G. Wilson (in the obair), d. Fanning, C. Mason, F. Midlane, F. Martin (treasurer), E. M. Beechey (secretary), A. U. George, F. Crombie. Mr Firth wrote enclosing a cheque for £5 6b towards the funds of the association, and suggesting ■ that old cricketers be appealed to to help to place the association on a sound financial basis.

“It’s high time,” said the chairman, “that the Wellington cricket was put on. a aound basis. In the past we have been continually in the mud regarding our finances. It is time we had things so that' we will* not be. frightened to spend 5s here or 6s there.” On the motion of Mr George, it was decided to open a £5 5s list, and that old cricketers should he appealed to. Mr George also moved that anyone contributing five guineas should be elected a life member of the asociation. Mr Crombie objected to this proposal on the ground that it would make life-membership, which had been looked upon as, an honour, .too cheap. The life membership question was held over till next meeting. A letter from the Auckland Association suggested December 25th, 26th and 27th, for the match Auckland v. Wellington at Auckland next season. The matter was deferred, pending advice on representative fixtures from other associations. The treasurer presented a balancesheet showing assets and liabilities as at May sth, 1914. The chief items in the liabilities were as follow: £ s. d. Wellington . A number of smaller items, with a l , bank overdraft of £l4B Os 4d, brought tho total liabilities to £390 2s lid. , . _

Ground fees amounting to £4B 15s are still owing to the association. The plant, etc., is estimated to be worth £ll4 6s.

The income for the year was £384 4s, which, together with £312 7s Ho as -profits of the, art union, totalled £696 Us lid. The balance of income over expenditure was £267 11s lid.
