MARLBOROUGH FIXTURE

The Marlborough Racing Club’s autumn meeting, will also be opened - today. The acceptances are good, but the Cup will be robbed of its interest a good deal-by-the absence of Katana, wlrich. it is reported, will not sport silk at the meeting. However, the ’field will include Peroneal. Maautan, and Imarose—three good performers, and. the contest should prove an exciting one. . ... Ugbrbbke Welter, seven furlongs.—Mount Victoria 10.2, . Makatau 9.8, Stepney 9.1, Waipuuui 8.10, Rpworth 8.5, Merry Guy 8.3, Lady Kilcheran 8.1, Killaroo 8. Mount Victoria claims engagement in the Flying Handicap, but as he has the steadier of 10.1 to carry he may be. started in this event in preference. Seven furlongs will, .1 fancy, ,be too short for Stepney, but Epwortli', wluch ran two good races at Palmerston, will not be without a lot of friends. Merry Guy too goes fast,., but may find six a little beyond him. Electric Handicap, five furlongs.— Sir Saracen 10, Ruination 8.11, Kene 8.7, Excitement 8.6, Ruapara 8.3, Royal Scout 8.3, Idol 7.11, Eron Roy 7.11, Peter Pan 7.10, Elopement 7.7, Portland Flame 7,7.

Seventeen pounds divides Sir Saracen and Ruination, and although the former is undoubtedly fast for live, his 'chances , cannot he too highly assessed with" such a difference in poundage. The latter has shown good form on the West Coast, but Rene is nicely weighted, and is sjir© to run prominently. Royal Scout faced well at Wairarapa, and with 8.3 should be in the lighting -line at the finish. Rood accounts are to hand of Portland Flame, which hails from Higgott’s stable. Marlborough Cup, one and a quarter miles. —Ratana 9, Peroneal 8.9, Monologue 8.2, Manitau 8.1, Parky 8.1, Imarose 6.13, Odessa 6.7. With the likely withdrawal of Katana, Peroneal will be entrusted with most money, and a good run backers should get for their mnoey, as she is unquestionably a brilliant mare over ten furlongs. Monologue ran badly at Palmerston, and will most likely find the journey too far to-day. Manitau is entitled to respect. He appears to bo at bis host just how, and with any sort of luck may bring about Peroneal’s downfall. Parky has not ae yet reproduced, bjs Winter Cup form, but Imarose is a likely sort. Odessa would b© better suited to a lengthier course. Flying Handicap, six furlongs.— Mount Victoria 9.1, Glenspring 8.12, Peronilla 8.12, Aratiatia 8.9 Beacon 8, Epworth 7.13, The Great Mogul 7.9, Merry Guy 7.7, Royal Sleeves 7.2. In the possible absence of Mount Victoria, Epworth and Merry Guy, which all claim engagement earlier in the day, Aratiatia will receive most support for this event, on account of her attractive elfort at 'Trentham when she scored so decisively in the Suburban Handicap. Peronilla too will have lots of friends, but 1 question whether she will be able to concede 31bs to Aratiatia and 171bs to The Great Mogul. The latter looks to be on the upward grade again. Autumn Handicap, six furlongs.— Achilledes 9, Alecto 8.11, Sir ]?aracen 8.6, Ruination 8.3, Rene 7.12, Hoopoe 7.2, Whisperer 7, Elopment 7, Manifest 7, Lady Daiesford 7. Should Sir Saracen.be reserved for this event ho will probably be installed favourite. There was a good deal of merit attached to his second to Listen at Trentham, as he was not too well placed in the early part of the race. Lady Daiesford also ran creditably at both Masterton and, Wellington, and may ho Sir Saracen’s most dangerous opponent.
