The judge congratulated the district On the immense progress made since his first visit te it,thirty,years ago. In his charge to the grand jury. His Honour, referring to the base of alleged attempted murder, remarked that the prisoner had believed he waS suffering a Wrong from evil reports spread by the prOsectltor, and thought he was justified in appealing to the unwritten law. His Honour said there was nothing in the laws of the country to warrant a person appealing to the unwritten law.

OREYMOUTH, March 16. ; 'The Supremo Court opened this morning before Mr Justice Denhiston, who said that there were no serious charges to answer. The jury returned no 'bill in the case of Francis Mikozj charged with an unnatural offence. Vida Upton pleaded guilty to two charges of forgery of Post Office Savings Bank slips for £lO and £ls. Counsel for the defence applied for probation, and His Honour reserved sentence in order that further inquiry might be made. William Cowan McNeill, charged with stealing a quantity of liquor from the Otira Motel, wag found not guilty. Edward Basil Wilson, charged with robbery with violence.. was convicted and Sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. , . The Court- has adjourned till IrVAds nesday. i
