The field moved off in almost perfect order, Con, the Shaughraun being the only one to lose ground. Peroneal and Patronale set a warm pace, followed by Emperador and a bunched lot.' Goldsize moved up into third place as they ran past the stand. The order then was Patronale, Peroneal, Goldsize,. Emperador, Allegation, and Stepney, Tiresome being last. At the, six furlong post ■patronale and Peroneal opened up a big break on Goldsize and Emperaoor. Byron ran into fifth place five furlongs from homo. At the High School bend the leaders commenced to come back, and Goldsize headed them before turning- for homo. Emperador- and Byron came through strongly, hut they, had no chance of catching the light weight (Goldsize), who wou comfortably, by rather more than a length. Emperador just beat Byron by a short neck, and .the order then ,was Tiresome, Allegation, Cheddar, with Con the Shaughraun and Patronale last. Time, 2min 7 2-ssec.

Florist caused a lot of trouble at the start, breaking .tho tapes and delaying matters considerably. Butcher Boy reared up and fell backwards, hut Conquest cleverly escaped accident. Eventually a good start was effected. Patronymic was in front as they swung into the straight, and Di Gama and Cpnney immediately challenged.
