Barrie donated £IO,OOO to launch, the Antarctic Expedition; the first donation —£35,000 —was from an anonymoits friend. GOLD IN ANTARCTICA. Professor David, iir his lecture before the Royal Geographical Society, said it was almost certain that gold in payable quantities could be found in the Antarctic. , Lieut. Shackleton said he wanted to cross tho Antarctic before any other nation could claim the honour.
