By the order of Mr Justice Higgins, a compulsory conference of parties to the wharf labourers’ dispute has been called for Wednesday. HOBART WATERSIDERS. DECLINE TO WORE OVERTIME. HOBART, February 10. The wharf labourers held a meeting on Friday last, and decided not to work overtime. The decision, was put into effect yesterday. All the gangs working on the Wi miner a knocked off. A “LAZY STRIKE.’’ FREMANTLE LUMPERS. FREMANTLE, February TO. A meeting of lumpers decided in ten minutes to fall into line with other States in declaring a “lazy strike.’’ Up to the present the men have been working under an agreement with the local shipowners without grievance; now one has been found which does not break the agreement but causes a breach between the men and the employers. INCREASED PAY. FOR VICTORIAN RAILWAY SERVANTS. MELBOURNE, February 10. Under the new pay scale of railway employees of Victoria an extra £BO,OOO a year will be needed. The revised scheme comes into opex'ation in July next. Over 12,000 men—approximately half the service—will benefit by the new regulations. THE BUTCHERS’ STRIKE. TROUBLE THREATENS TO SPREAD. (Received February 10, 9.20 p.m.) SYDNEY; February 10. A few more butchers have conceded the men’s demands. On the other hand, the Retail Butchers’ Association is seeking to induce the carcase butchers not to supply meat to such shops. The trouble threatens to spread. A number of allied unions have -.expressed their sympathy with the strikers and it is reported that the engineers driving the .refrigerating machinery have expressed their willingness to cease work if asked to do so.
