At a meeting of bankers, merchants, and business men at the Guildhall, including) Lords Somerset, Southwark, and Aldenham, Admiral Sir E. Fremantle, and the masters of most of the city companies, a resolution was passed assuring support to any measures the Government considered necessary for the supremacy of the navy and the adequate protection of trade routes. The Lord Mayor, who presided, pointed out that the meeting was not political. The Hon. T. Mackenzie, High Commissioner representing New Zealand, said that New Zealand was not yet competent to do all that was necessary for tho safety in transport of its produce, but was prepared to do its share.
