When the steamer Strathallan cleared vecentlv at the Newcastle Customhouse for San Francisco via Malden Island, it caused some comment in shipping circles, as it was known that this vessel had a full cargo of coal for the American port, and was going ont of her track to call at Malden Island. Upon inquiries being made it was found that owing to a vessel not arriving at Malden Island, provisions and other supplies were very short, and arrangements were made for the Strathallan to be diverted from her course, and take 2o tons of “"-plies for the inhabitants.
