The death occurred on Sunday, at the age of sixty-five years, of a wellknown and respected colonist in tho person of Mr Patrick McMahon, of Ghuznee street. The late Mr McMahon arrived in Wellington forty years ago, and resided here up to the time of his death. He was a prominent member of the Hibernian Society, and at last evening’s meeting of St. Patrick’s branch high tribute was paid to his work during his long connection with the society, tho meeting then being adjourned out of respect for deceased. The funeral, which took place at Karori yesterday afternoon, was attended by a large following of relatives. and friends from all parts of the Dominion, and also by members of the H.A.C.8.5., who were present in full regalia. The large number of wreaths gave evidence of the high esteem in which deceased was held. The Rev. Father Ty mo ns officiated at the graveside. The late Mr McMahon leaves a widow, five daughters and four sons.
