NEW PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS
PROGRESS OF THE CONTRACT. Matters are beginning to assume an appearance of activity in the Parliamentary grounds, where the now buildings are being erected. The big gantry, which is to carry the eleetno crane for putting into position the heavy blocks of stone and the steelwork, i* now nearing completion, ino first of tho machinery is expected to arrive in AVellington in tho course of a week or two. , There has been some delay over the proposal that the new chamber for tho Lower House should bo ready for the 1915 session. Although the contractors (Messrs Hansford, Mills, and Hardie) see no difficulty in the way of carrying out tho project, the iublic Works Department has not yet given the final word that tho work is to be proceeded with. * The quarrying of Sandy Bay marble for the now buildings has now been commenced. The first shipment ot stone from there is duo in Wellington, under contract, in six months time. It is not anticipated that there will bo any delay in this direction.
