Canterbury opened this afternoon in beautiful weather, and on an easy wick-ot. Otago batted first, Alloo and Watson opening to the bowling of Thomas and Wilson. In Thomas’s second over Watson sent 10 on the hoard, with a classy late cut to tho fence, and then Alloo opened his account with a lovely oft drive off Wilson. Both, batsmen played the slow bawlor correctly and confidently, and some nice strokes, assisted by some sharply run singles, took tho score along steadily.
