PETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of th© Peton© Technical School managers was held last evening. Present: Her. A. Thomson (chairman), and Messrs McEwan, Cunliffo, Hobbs, Roots, McKenzie, Oastle, and Cox. The director (Mr J. H. Lynskey) reported that the progress of the school had been most pronounced during th© year. In some cases the attendance of pupils had been \in-and-out, doe largely to the continued wet weather stopping pupils living at a distance. The wool-sorting class had been a distinct success and received great assistance from Messrs S. and H. Burridge, Burke, and Nelson. Applications have been received from all over the Dominion for W'ool-classers. Pupils who have passed through the school have received appointments in various sheds, and their knowledge is highly spoken of. Excellent work lias been done by the plumbing, electricity, matriculation, chemistry, millinery English, arithmetic, and shorthand and typewriting classes. The dressmaking class has been disappointing. A good 'start was made, but there was a large decrease of pupils in the second and third terms. The discipline of this class could be improved upon. The carpentry class has done an excellent year’s work, and some of the work is a credit to the pupils and to their very enthusiastic instructor, Mr F. Walton. The staff has been most loyal and given generous support throughout the year. The thanks are also duo for the support given by the Education Board, Petono and Dower Hutt Borough Councils, Goar Company, "Wellington Woollen Company, Petono Working Men’s Club, and Dalgety and Co. The report was approved and adopted.
