ANIMATED CONTROVERSY SQUABBLE OVER CHURCH FEDERATION SCHEME. Br Tolccn ph—?rua As*oclr.tlon —Copyright (Received December 24, 0.5 a.m.) LONDON, December 23. An animated controversy is in progress in connection with the federation of non-Roman Catholic Churches. The East Afrioa-Uganda railway has opened vast fields, but the divisions among tho non-Roman churches gave Romanian and Mohammedanism a great advantage. A conference of missionaries at Kikua in June proposed a scheme of federation on tho basis of all parties accepting the Bible, tho Apostles’ and Niceno Creed, and baptism in the name of the Trinity, that those not confirmed should not bo repelled from communion, and that a form of common prayer should bo adopted based on tho Anglican Prayer Book. The Bishop of Zanzibar, belonging to the Universities Mission, is now seeking to wreck the federation by accusing tho Bishops of Uganda and Mombnssa, who are members of the Church Missionary Society, of heresy. The Bishop of Uganda is accused of administering the Sacrament to Nonconformists. A similar federation was proposed m Shanghai in 1908.
