LAND REFORM
MR LLOYD GEORGE’S CAMPAIGN “PARASITIC INTEREST TO BE PLACED LAST.” “LIFE-BLOOD OF COUNTRY EBBING. By Teleeraph— Press Association —Copyright (Received December 24, 0.10 a.m.) LONDON, December 23. Mr Lloyd George, speaking at Pwllheli, repudiated the idea that his land programme was merely a votecatching device. He said that for every 20s paid by the farmer in .wages ho paid over 25s as rout. He (Mr Lloyd George) wanted fair play for all, but a landlord was no more essential to agriculture than a chain was to a watch, and tho Government’s plan was to place tho parasitic interest last. The Tory alternative was to use tho taxpayers' money for the landlords to build cottages so that they could keep their tenants under thoir thumbs. Referring to emigration, the Chancellor said that tho life-blood of the country districts was being gradually drained and poured into the veins of tho new lands overseas where labourers were better treated.
