Cardinal Rompolla was indisposed all day on Tuesday, but refused to allow his secretary to pass the night in his room. Cardinal Merry del Val suggested postponing tho breaking of the news of Cardinal Rampolla’s death to the Pope until nest clay, fearing the shock to His Holiness. Despite precautions, however, tho Popo heard Cardinal Rampolla’s name coupled with remarks about his indisposition. Tho Popo at first was unable to believe the Cardinal was dead, having scon him on Saturday, apparently in his usual state of health.
