“ A POLITICAL RAILWAY ”

'PROTEST AGAINST FEATHERSTON TERMINUS. Special to tho “Times.” MASTERTON, December 19. At a mooting of the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon a strong protest was made at tho Government’s intention to start the railway to Martinborough from Featherston, this being ■considered inimical to the Rimutaka deviation project, besides being of less service to tho district than if it joined tho main line near Woodside. Throe or four speakers described the Martinborough lino as a railway established for political purposes. It was decided to ask the co-opera-tion of tho two Chambers of Commerce in Wellington in the matter of protesting against the terminus being at Featherston, and also to further advocate the deviation of tho Rimntaka lino. It was also decided to wait on Martinborough residents for the purpost of pointing out that the most serviceable point for Martinborough to join the main line was through Grcytown to Woodsido.
