FRANCHISE CONFERRED ON WOMEN. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright MELBOURNE, October 22. The Anglican Synod, by a majority ol 125 votes, conferred" the church franchise on women. An amendment to the Assemblies’ Act was carried enabling women to obtain the right to vote as lay representatives to Synod. Archbishop Clarke said this was a great new departure in church life, and it would influence the whole life of the community. MAINTENANCE OF CHURCH AND CLERGY. MINIMUM STIPEND FIXED. (Received October 22, 9.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 22. The Anglican Synod amended the Patronage Act so that if parishioners fail to make adequate provision for, the maintenance of the church and clergy of the parish, they shall lose the right to nominate an incumbent. The minimum stipend was fixed at £2OO and a house, or £250 without a house.
